My Nissan 2007 engine gives knocking sound continuously

Engine knocking continous but slight noise is there in engine, car consumes bit more fuel on getting heated it looks to work much better at times Engine light goes on and compression is goes very low / car stope on restarting car it works fine even runs for several hours
