How to test radiator fan relay
1 Reply
Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. The relay for the fan is in the relay box in the engine compartment. How do you test it? First, I would perform testing for the symptom - assuming your cooling fan is not turning on. There is a signal given based on engine temperature to the engine processor that will then power the fan motor via the relay when it's time to turn on. With the engine at operating temperature or above - do you have power at the motor? With the air conditioning system on, does the fan operate? Test for power at the motor at this point also. The relay may or may not be at fault, but more often it's something more. Hands on testing is needed. Testing a relay is using a multimeter to check for continuity and resistance and also applying power to see if it clicks. I feel like there are other issues here. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554. We'll gladly find you a certified RepairPal shop in your area.
