How much to replace AC compressor

What is your question?

Hired a mechanic that owns a shop to find out why the AC compressor quit blowing cold air . Says it's the compressor. Charging my mother $886.14 to order new compressor and put it in. Are we getting over charged? No noises and no leaks.

What makes this problem better or worse?

Nothing makes it worse just no cold air. It just suddenly stopped blowing cold air.
