Had car cranked and turned it off upon trying to start it back up the steering column was locked. It will turn right towards the bad strut but not left.

Hi Tamesha, No, a broken strut will not cause the steering column to lock. If you are unable to turn the key because the steering is putting pressure on the ignition lock, all you need to do is move the steering wheel with one hand (in the direction that it will move) & turn the key with the other hand at the same time. This may take some effort on the steering, but don't force the key. All vehicles have a lock system on the steering, it's only an issue when there's pressure on the lock, usually from turning the key off with the wheels turned or if it is pushed up against a curb or parking block.
