I own an '06 Sentra with 49K miles. When should i do the timing belt/water pump & how much should I expect to pay?

I had the same question about the timing belt.I asked the Nissian Dealer and they said 105,000 for the first major tune-up, timing belt included. It is so high because there is no timing belt it is a chain and gear on the 2006 Sentra. I just hit 103,000 with no problems at all except on things i thought i was doing for preventitive maintanace like the belt idler pulley which flew off going down the frwy. 500 miles after I had it replaced. I would recomend normal oil changes and leave the rest alone until 100,000 miles.
Couldn't agree with you more! If it ain't broke, don't "fix it". Oil changes every 3000-5000 miles. I bought my car with 4 miles on it, I now have 265,500 mostly pizza delivery miles. This is what I've replaced and what I have learned about this vehicle: Brakes- semi-metallic pads last slightly longer than a roll of toilet paper. yes, they are cheaper and you can get a life-time warranty, but how much are your off days worth to you? A good mid-grade ceramic break pad is more than double the cost of a semi-metallic break pad. A ceramic pad gets me +75,000 miles, semi-metallic pad gets me between 15,000-20,000 miles. good parts(not necessarily name brand parts)last longer and will need changed less often. WORTH IT! Don't waist money on un-needed repairs. I feel like I've bought a million or so tires, Probably need an alignment about 240,000 miles ago. Did have to change a wheel hub on right rear at 85,000 miles(easy). Starter at 225,000. Battery at 120,000 miles. Air filter replaced twice, cleaned twice. Spark plugs changed once at 225,000 miles. Belts changed at 90,000 and 240,000 miles. Oil and oil filter changed every 3500-10,000 miles(stopped oil changes since discovery of rear-main seal leak at 225,000 miles). I am a strong believer in fuel and oil additives. I don't use additives often, just when I feel it necessary. I've never got less than 24.9 mpg with a/c on. 26.7 mpg before I changed spark plugs, never less than 28.9 mpg after changing spark plugs. As I've stated, current mileage - 265,500. Pay attention and listen to your car, she'll tell you what she needs.
