Hello, Backfiring and losing power at high engine demand may be a result of worn valve seats or burnt valves. There may also be an ignition issue causing a misfire at peak demand, and this would cause the unused fuel to ignite in the exhaust system due to extreme heat. I would recommend consulting a professional for hands-on diagnostics, and a leak-down test may be performed.
