What is your question?
Took 2022 Nissan Pathfinder to get new brake roaters last Wed. They also checked all the usual things including air filter. The air filter came back as good. On Friday (two days after replacing brake roaters) I was driving out of town on highway and my engine shut off and message on car said “please pull over safely”. Once pulled over, the car would no longer start. I had it towed to dealership and they told me the air filter had collapsed causing issues with air intake sensor. My question is, could the inspection on Wed at the dealership been the reason for the collapsed air filter? What else would cause it to collapse after they said it was in good shape? I feel like it’s too much of a coincidence to not be related to the dealership inspection 2 days before it died on the highway.

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. It's definitely possible that something happened to your Pathfinder's air filter during inspection that could have contributed to the filter collapsing. If the filter wasn't reinstalled properly, was damaged during inspection, or if the housing wasn't sealed correctly, this could restrict airflow and cause it to collapse. A collapsed air filter can starve the engine of air, leading to issues like stalling and failure to start. The timing does seem suspicious, given the proximity to the inspection, so it's worth raising the concern with the dealership and asking for a thorough explanation.
