Recommended procedure/practice after engine overhaul

What is your question?

My vehicle is a Nissan Pathfinder 2014. We had to overhaul the engine because the head gasket blew up. After repair, Nissan requested us to return the car after 1,000km for a check-up. However, they did not change engine oil / oil filter. What is the recommended practice?

I do not see a reason to change the engine oil and filter unless there is evidence of some kind of contamination. I would recommend following normal maintenance intervals -- 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first is a good idea.
