Can I recharge the AC in my 2001 Nissan pathfinder myself?

Hello, although it is possible to obtain the needed tools to do this work, the federal government and Environmental Protection Agency requires that anyone handling refrigerant be educated and certified. As a result, unless you're willing to go through the certification process, it is illegal to handle refrigerant. Additionally, if a system needs to be recharged, there must be a leak. If there's a leak, it is irresponsible to try to charge it because you're damaging the atmosphere. Lastly do you even know that the system is empty? Is there perhaps an electric or mechanical concern? Or is there a problem with the climate control system? A diagnostic test should be performed by somebody with skill and knowledge to figure out what is going on here before trying to "recharge" the system.
