2007 Nissan Murano My Nissan stopped on when driving.

My Nissan Murano 2007 suddenly revs very high while I was on cruse control 60 miles/hour. I immediately remove it from the cruse and the engine stopped and guiding the car to the side of the highway while on the highway. I tried to start it but it will not start again. Please, what could be the cause?
