Hey, my name is Dusty, and I'm one of the auto experts with RepairPal's Car Genius team. I'm here to help! Most modern gasoline vehicles no longer require a separate fuel filter; some exceptions, of course, prove the rule. Typically, a filter, sometimes called a sock, is mounted to the fuel pump module to keep the contaminants out of the fuel system. So if and when the pump fails and is replaced, the filter is replaced. There are other potential causes of the sputtering you've noticed, but a failing fuel pump could certainly be the cause. A thorough diagnosis by a competent professional can sort things out. If you have any other questions or would like help finding a RepairPal Certified shop in your area, call us! 877-913-1554
