Car won't start

My 2009 nissan maxima got stuck in water, luckly there were not water inside neither in the engine but the car won't start, we replace the starter and the starter fuse, but still it won't start. We only hear a crank like it was going to start but nothing happen. But everything turns on.what could possibly be the problem. Please help. Thank you
