It overheats while sitting and idling and cools down when i give it gas

While sitting at an traffic light it runs hot and soon as I give it gas it cools down

What makes this problem better or worse?

After driving the car for a while it over heats when I stop at a light or anything

How long has your 2006 Nissan Maxima had this problem?
