Can a bad speed sensor make my car jerk as I'm slowly down?

Switching from drive to reverse or reverse to drive my car would jerk like crazy, then if I'm coming to a stop from 40 mph to 0, right before I stop it would jerk

Have knowledgeable personnel (mechanic) test drive vehicle - probably be no change for this. Impossible to diagnose here online.
