Why do I have to use all my strength to make a turn?

You can look to see if belt is turning the P/S pump.

ok thanks...dumb question number 101 if the belt isn't broke am I looking at the pump then? the car makes awful metallic popping sounds when you turn, not like a cv joint noise I know those sounds lol

It's possible the pump OR the steering rack has failed but start with the belt, it has a 'separate' belt for the P/S!
