smoke coming from back of engine

I had a similar problem and found that the power steering return line (low pressure hose) leaked on to the exhaust line. The rear valve cover gasket leak will certainly cause this too.

Sounds like one of your valve cover gaskets are leaking engine oil onto your exhaust and smoking.
