I had a similar problem on my 2013 Juke - intermittently not starting where everything turns on but it won't actually start the car. After 5 - 20 button pushes, you might get lucky and it finally starts. Other days, it will start with the first push and there's no problem. My dealership drove it for days and finally got it to reproduce and found that the brake sensor was bad. So it was only sometimes aware that the brake was pressed, and of course won't start the car if it thinks you aren't braking. I just got the car back today so can't say for sure that the fix worked. Posting now though because I'll forget later, so if you don't see an update to this post, then that means it worked and you just need to get the brake sensor replaced to get the starting issue to resolve (assuming the battery is also okay in both the car and the key). UPDATE: Since the brake sensor was replaced, I have not had a single issue. Car starts with the first push every time and it's been almost a month (previously I was having the non-starting issue almost daily).
You start with batteries and move on from there. Good Luck
The key out of the ignition should shut the headlight system off after 30seconds so I do not believe it is that. With that 'more information' ( Dead battery in car ) that you supplied moves us in a different direction all together. Something is staying active when the key is out of the ignition. Look for interior lights staying on, cigarette lighters warm to the touch, brake light staying on with you out of the vehicle etc.
I've had the same problem several times with my 2012 Juke. Once, I needed a new battery in my keyfob. That one was on me. Another, the dealer suggested I may have flooded it because I only moved my Juke a few feet after starting it to pull it into the garage; because I only moved the car a few feet I didn't let enough of the fuel burn off so I flooded it, which made sense to me so I can overlook that one too. But it doesn't explain why I've have so many problems with it starting. I've been stranded 7 times in the past month. I've seen similar complaints on other sites. I've gone through everything I can think of that could be caused by operator error. I had the dealer check the battery, alternator, and starter the last tie I had it in the shop for an oil change just a couple of weeks ago. This week I'm taking it to a local mechanic instead of the dealer to see what he can come up with. He's worked on my daughter's 1984 Volkswagen Jetta (yes, 1984 - it's not a typo). I'm guessing it's some connection in the sequence of relays that start the car; transmission in park, brake pedal pressed, etc. I know that electrical problems can be difficult to diagnose because you can't always duplicate the fault...when the connections are connecting, everything tests out as being fine and dandy. But all the same, if I can't get this diagnosed and fixed, I'm trading in my Juke for another car. Despite the fact that I love it. If anyone has figured it out let me know. (Except for the lady who posted that it turned out to be her brake pedal connection - I checked that and it's good but appreciated your post all the same!)
I purchased my juke in july & have had it back to the garage 3 times for drained battery. Last time(this week) the mechanic asked me to familiarize myself with settings. There is a setting regarding auto light switch. When parking under a street light & after exiting car the lights won't go out-sensing the need to stay on- had the sensitivity reduced & now lights go out after 45 secs. Will see if that is the remedy. The reason car wouldn't start was drained battery I guess!
I've had similar problems with MY juke not starting with the keyfob and often I have to rub the keyfob on the start button wait to hear a signal and try again, sometimes the key light comes on in the dashboard and then goes off. I've had the battery changed 3 times now my juke is a 2012 this is insane.
I am experiencing the same issues. Bought 2012 Juke in 2013 with 1 owner, low miles & car has run well up until March 2016. Car would not start & no warning lights given. Brought to dealer and told it was my battery, which was replaced. Now 2 months later same issue happened this morning, car won't start. Had roadside assistance run dianostic and was told battery power at 2.6 volt should be 12+. Ultimately said its the alternator- back at dealership waiting for their results. Sounds like this is an ongoing issue & I should consider trading in. Any advice?
I owned a 2011 - did same thing - key fob not starting but then would in 15-20 min. Had to call AAA to start car, replaced battery, checked starter. Then timing chain broke - had to replace the whole engine and then key fob worked all the time. My daughter has a 2015 - never had this problem. I upgraded to a 2014, low miles and it is starting to do the same thing. The one thing I read above is possible the brake isn't registering when pedal is pushed. I love these cars obviously but if can't get it fixed - don't want to be stranded.
I have had many times that my 2012 juke wouldn't start. I am the original owner and have had 3 batteries already. I have had it towed 4x and have been stranded 2x. Nissan tried their best to not be responsible and even tried to make me pay for towing 1x. I let them have in the middle of their service department an asked to speak to the sales manager to let him know how many sales he was about to miss out on due to the bad publicity I would give them. Finally they took me in office and became responsible. After weeks of keeping my car and testing it they finally came to the conclusion that the message from the brake pedal wasn't being received. They replaced it and my battery for being so drained from this issue. Now I have a dead battery again and my daughter is using the car. I am sick of this problem and will reconsider keeping this vehicle. Something drains the batteries in these cars.
An article somewhere else said that it was the brake fluid and low and behold my brake fluid was a little bit low.
Anyone having issues with their 2011-2012 Juke not starting.... I have been in a back and forth battle with Nissan. I've had this issue for almost 4 years. I purchased my Juke brand new in Feb 2012 and after all this time with this issue - not starting, being stranded or stalled out- the dealer said they found a fix. They had to reprogram the ECM. So that was Sept 2016. I went on my merry way with the dealer saying they guaranteed it wouldn't happen again. Come Feb 2017, I was stranded when I tried to go get lunch. So my husband and I were just so mad it happened again. We googled and my husband ended up finding out that Nissan issued a service bulletin to the dealers ... no recalls and no notice to customers. Just to Nissan dealers. This was back in Dec 2012!!! I called Nissan Corporate to complain and try to make them acknowledge their error. Of course I got nothing and no answers. Just generic email replies and when I started a case for them to do a repurchase on my vehicle- they denied it of course. Even with my service history, going to the same service dept, almost 10x for the same thing and 5 diff batteries. It's ridiculous!! Call Nissan and complain!!! Maybe then they'll acknowledge their Juke had a defect!! CALL YOUE SERVICE DEPT AND ASK THEM TO REFER TO A NISSAN SERVICE BULLETIN IN DEC 2012 - REFERENCE: NTB12-115
My 2013 Juke doesn't start occasionally. So frustrating! Went to dealer today and was told that my fobs needed to be re-synced ... that sometimes the programming gets scrambled. Service tech resynced and said I was good to go. Hope that's the end of it. P.S. I asked about manually starting car with the "key" that's inside the fob when the fob malfunctions, as most cars have a hidden ignition switch somewhere inside the vehicle. Service tech said here is how to do it with the 2013 Juke: PRESS the "on" button WITH THE KEY FOB, making sure the internal "key" is facing the button. That is how to manually start this Juke. Don't know about other years/models. Asked him why this wasn't in manual. He said it is in manuals of later models after much complaining of customers.
