Check engine light came on and no acceleration

This could be several different things. The check engine light indicates there is a problem and will point toward the system (ignition, emissions, etc.) that is affected. Often, when there is a problem, the computer will put the car into what is called "limp" mode, which limits the RPMs and speed that the car can go so that it doesn't do further damage to the engine.
