What is your question?
There is an unpleasant screeching noise when I start the engine. I just had it serviced and the mechanics said it was in great working condition. However, I’m sure this screeching noise is not normal. It gets less loud as the car warms up but never goes away. Would it be the fan? What happens if a fan belt breaks, how and when do I replace it, and is it expensive? If it’s not the fan belt, any best guesses?
What makes this problem better or worse?
Worse when the engine is cold
How long has your 2005 Nissan Frontier had this problem?
A few months

Hello, sounds like a belt related concern. The belt drives multiple pulleys under the hood on the front of the engine, such as the water pump, alternator, air conditioning compressor and power steering pump. There is also an idler and tensioner pulley that keeps the belt routed properly with the proper tension. If any of those pulleys - and related components - is binding, the belt will screech as the engine's crankshaft continues to try and drive the belt against a pulley that is resisting. Hands on testing is needed, and I expect some kind of more substantial repair may be required. Driving the truck like this is not advisable.
