taillights do not come on when i turn on head lights

when i put on head lights the tail lights do not come on but blinkers, reverse, and brake lights work, but i cant drive the truck once it gets dark because of the tail lights i got a 200 dollar ticket cause of that i checked the fuses what else might be the problem
