What is your question?
I took my Nissan frontier 2001 for a smog check, and the diagnostic was to replace the knock sensor 1, someone erased the code, so it would pass the smog test. Do I still have to change it? The engine light never came on, I only found out because I took my truck for the smog check. I also took my truck to AutoZone just to be sure, they run the test and the same thing came on, knock sensor 1 needs to be replaced. My concern is, after they erased the code, do I still need to replace the knock sensor 1? can I drive it safely? My truck is leaking tiny bits of oil from the cap, I changed the seal it didn't work, I changed the entire piece, it stills leaks, this has been going on for like 2 years. I also noted that is consuming more coolant than usual, this has been going on for the last month. Thanks.
How long has your 2001 Nissan Frontier had this problem?
I don't know. I only found out because I took it for a smog test. No check engine light came on.

First of all: no "code" will tell you that a sensor needs replaced. The code that was received relates to the circuit, not the sensor. Diagnostic testing is required in the circuit to find out why the code is setting. Second, yes, it's not about the smog test -- it's about making sure your vehicle is operating properly. Definitely do diagnose and repair what has failed. Oil "leaks" from the cap would be nominal; the oil cap should not really be under any kind of pressure. If it is, it could indicate an internal engine ventilation concern, such as with the PCV system. This could also contribute to oil consumption. But it's all a guess from my computer -- hands on testing is needed. Use this link to find some shops near you that can help with your concern: www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
