why would rear brake pads wear out before fronts and its just one side?

The rear brakes have a much smaller friction area (small pad) compared to the fronts and sometimes will wear out before the fronts, But have someone check that caliper on that side to make sure its not frozen and won't retract when the brakes are released
The only thing that would make sense to me is that you have a brake caliper pin that is sticking. This might not cause the car to pull because it is the rear wheel. If this is true then your gas mileage should improve if you get it fixed.
