What is your question?
Check engine light came on. When at a red light or when my foot is on the brakes, the car would cut off. I was able to turn it back on. I went to AutoZone to get the code read, code that came up was p0462 (Replace Fuel Level Sensor). Thought I needed to replace the fuel pump but didn’t. The fuel pump that is in the car now was brought this past August. I was told it was defective and today found out it was not. Trying to figure out what’s the next step. The fuel gauge has been acting up. I was told to get a speedometer. What should my next step be? I want to know why my car is cutting off. Is the car shutting off due to the code p0462?

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. I am sorry you are having this frustrating experience. And, I understand what you are asking. First, we should address some things that are not true but are being assumed to be true. Code P0462 does not mean "Replace Fuel Level Sensor". It refers to: "Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Low Input". You may agree - that's a very big difference. No diagnostic trouble code of any kind will direct the replacement of any component. Trouble codes indicate detected issues that require troubleshooting. It sounds like the related circuit - meaning network - power - ground - needs to be inspected and checked for continuity, resistance, power and ground where relevant. I can't say the car will or will not stall due to the concern that sets this code, but I suppose it could? If you are having a circuit issue related to the fuel pump, it's reasonable to think fuel delivery may stop. So, that's a concern. I would recommend some professional testing by a shop near you.= https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554.
