What is your question?
I was in 2 automobile accidents in the month of 8/2010. I had my vehicle repaired and a few days after I got it back from the shop my engine light came on. I took it back to the shop to be looked at and was advised that the Catalytic converter needed to be replaced. I have also noticed when I start my car the engine makes a rumbling noise but when I put it in gear to move the rumbling stops. Also it seems that I have been using an abnormaly increase in gas. Please help! Could this problem be something that was caused by the accident or the repair shop?

It does seem odd that the converter needs replaced now since an accident. You did not mention where the accident damage was located. Safe to say that any damage to the suspension could also dislocate your exhaust system and cause bending or damage to mounting or shields. Obviously, dented or damaged components could very well be accident related. Harder to detect are issues that do not seem to be caused by physically damage. Even so, you need to get the information from the codes the check engine light is indicating and perhaps even get a second opinion rather than from the shop you had the damaged repaired at. You did not mention the mileage your car has -- but if it is under 80,000 miles, you likely have a warranty still on the converter. So, either way, you are probably covered...from accident insurance, or federal emissions warranty. Good luck.
Thanks for this information. My vehicle has 123, 000 miles on it. I will definately check into the codes that were give from the check engine light. Thanks again!
