AC blowing room temp air Compressor hissing Oil residue above wipers on windshield (was told to look for residue) Check engine light came on yesterday (read out wasn't specific catalitic convertor was a possible cause nothing specific) Noticed air same time I am making a 1000 mile trip and had to turn around at 300 miles because my 3 yr old daughter can't have wind on her ears please help

IF the air conditioner quit because of refrigerant and oil leaking, then without knowing where the refrigerant/oil is leaking from it is hard to guess at what issue could be. Air conditioning systems need to operate at specific pressures and there are various components that need to work properly in order to maintain those pressures. It could be that the system pressure was to high and it vented through a safety valve or another possibility is that a seal or hose failed and will need to be replaced. Regardless, it would take a properly equipped shop to recharge the system and check pressures after repairs are performed.
