What is your question?
Cylinder 5 misfiring, "rich mixture" codes so new aftermarket fuel injectors installed, leaking coil covers were not replaced by Mechanic. Catalytic Converter error appeared, sometimes would not start. Ran ok, engine sounded ok, still cata code. When installing the catalytic converter y-pipe system I did not fasten the mid-pipe (center of the underside) bolt all the way and wrenched some without full support and felt sway from the passenger side exhaust manifold/down pipe. Started the vehicle and noticed a new clicking sound coming valve cover area passenger and exhaust leaking from flange with screw bolts connecting to muffler leg of the pipe driver side and a small sound exhaust note coming from the passenger side catalytic converter section mentioned before that gave sway. Gave me the same catalytic converter codes. Tightened both sides of the pipe. Catalytic Converter codes went away but now with Cylinder 5 misfire and fuel too rich, very hard starts, clicking at cover still.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Worse after tightening
How long has your 2006 Mitsubishi Montero had this problem?
Just finished install

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. I would not have "guessed" at injectors. I would look more at the spark plugs and coils - if you swap those to known "good" cylinders does the msifire chase the parts or stay at cylinder 5? A physical inspection can help make sure all is attached as it should be - so seek guidance at a shop near you. They can also listen to the noise you speak of. Make sure your exhaust is intact and securely fastened. Check the misfires as I've suggested. And recheck. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554. So, I ran out of the 1000 words and couldn't detail more all around. It was not really clear when I said cata code appeared but did not say the previous errors disappeared. I apologize. As well, did not mention that previous to this the spark plugs, coils, and wires were all replaced before the fuel injectors were replaced. Many other things, the MAF, pressure regulator, fuel pump. The codes remained. Upon replacing the fuel injectors _this did fix the misfire and too rich codes_ but introduced a catalytic converter error code. Upon replacing the catalytic converter the codes have appeared again. So let me re-ask the question. Did putting pressure on the EGR Exhaust Manifold possibly have damaged it, causing the codes to appear, not from plugs/coils, but from a leaky exhaust manifold? To the question at a more fundamental level: During the catalytic converter install, is the downpipe (EGR?) from the exhaust manifold supposed to move at all during mating? Cylinder 5 is on that side of the exhaust manifold to which budged/swayed during installation of the bolts which connect it to the catalytic converter on the side. It's the middle cylinder on that side, most likely to crack in that area, mid manifold. Oh, also probably important, the RPM gauge/sensor is no longer working.
