Are the service engine soon and check engine light 1 and the same on this car?

The check engine light (CEL), Service Engine Soon, and Malfunction Indicator (MIL) differs from one manufacture to another, and from European, Asian or domestic but pretty much they refer to the same thing, the OBD has detected and stored a fault. Now, A Maintenance required lights are almost always calculated from engine hours/running time, odometer/mileage travelled, or for hybrids and battery stuff, elapsed time is used even if the vehicle hasn't been driven, not always but almost always. the owners manual is a wealth of information
