car revs when put into park

What is your question?

i have just bought a 98 auto mitsubishi legnum station wagon and when i put it into any gear, mainly into drive then back to park it revs to about 1500 and then goes back to idle speed is this normal as ive only had manual {stick} cars...any ideas
