What is your question?
I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.4 L automatic transmission. I have a recently replaced throttle body assembly which came with the idle sensor and throttle position sensor attached. I have new spark plugs. What's happening is when I push hard on the accelerator pedal the engine will speed up like it's supposed to but when I let off the pedal it does not throttle down. My only fix is to put the car in neutral and then the RPMs will drop on their own or sometimes I have to push the gas pedal down real hard 2 or 3 times and then the RPMs will come down. Then I put it back in drive and keep going. The pedal is not sticking and neither is the new butterfly in the throttle body assembly. There is no check engine light on and there are no codes being displayed. What else could it be?
What makes this problem better or worse?
It only happens at higher RPMs.
How long has your 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse had this problem?
A few months

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! So your 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse likes to hold onto RPMs like it’s auditioning for "Fast & Furious"? Since the throttle body and sensors are new, you’ve ruled out some big contenders, but sticky high RPMs could mean a throttle cable issue or even a vacuum leak. You should also verify that the replacement parts are working properly and there's not a "relearn" procedure. It's like your car is getting extra air when it shouldn’t, making it rev like it’s had too much caffeine. Double-check those cables and hoses because sometimes even the smallest crack or kink can keep your engine from calming down.
