What is your question?
In the last year or so I've replaced the battery, alternator, and starter. All dashboard lights etc. will come on/work when trying to start it. It doesn't make the sounds of a dead or dying battery, but was starting after taking a jump, though after last 3 episodes I haven't moved it... afraid of being stranded again. None of the steering column buttons: radio, turn signals, cruise control features work, but haven't for a long time prior to this and there's a white plastic (looks like the old PC "bus cables" wiring goes through~like the bands hospitals put on wrists) is hanging from steering wheel shortly AFTER this issue started.
What makes this problem better or worse?
slowly getting worse until it doesn't matter how many times I try turning key
How long has your 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse had this problem?
early summer, but possibly longer as I've replaced everything my mechanic has suggested

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. It is very difficult to suggest any theory of what you may be experiencing when dealing with a 22 year old vehicle with a long term starting problem. Especially having replaced various components over a period of time in an attempt to resolve the problem. Hands on testing is needed. I believe there is more than one problem; the starting issue may not be related to other steering column button operation issue. You definitely should not have any circuitry hanging from there, but I cannot say it's influencing the starting issue. If the starter motor does not engage when turning the key, there could be an ignition cylinder issue, a cabling issue for a starter motor issue -- provided the battery is fully charged and able to accept a load.
