What is your question?
I had a mechanic friend replace the 2 belts. 3 days later the belt for the alternator ended up shredding and being sucked u into where the timing belt is and now after resetting the timing belt the engine turns over but wont actually start. Is this engine zero tolerance, and are there any tests I can run before ultimately having to replace possible bent heads?
If no belts are on the vehicle right now, you shouldn't try to start it at all. The head will most likely have to be removed and inspected to locate what is damaged.
Ok. Thank you. Another quick question. When he replaced the serpentine belts, should he have checked to make sure the pulleys and harmonic balancer were straight? And if the tension was not set correctly could that have caused the harmonic balancer to bend ultimately causing the belt to be offset and sucked into the timing belt area?
If there was too much tension, something would have eventually given. It is possible. I'm curious how anything could have been "sucked up" into the timing belt area. There should be covers over the whole timing belt to not allow anything to enter that area. When the engine turns over, does it sound consistent? Or does it sound like it gets easy for the starter at any point during the crank. That's a quick and dirty way to check compression.
It sounds consistent. It just sounds quite a bit softer, thats the only way I can explain it. And it was sucked up into the timing belt area due to the brand new belt being shredded. There is only a very small gap around the cover for that to be able to happen. Also the guy still has not put any of the belts back on, nor has he checked the spark plugs. He left everything dismantled and put the parts in my trunk. So Im not sure if that would have any impact on this. Also when he put the belts on originally, before this nightmare, throughout the 3 days my car was not wanting to idle when I came to a stop. It was wanting to, or sounded like it was wanting to stall.
