When first trying to start the car it hesitates until I just keep forcing it then it starts. Is the problem the starter and is it hard to replace?

If the engine cranks over the starter isn't the problem. You would have to explain better how you force the starter to make it start. Do you mean you keep cranking and cranking the starter and eventually it starts? Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website http://bit.ly/autozone_repair_info. and get an online repair manual subscription.
