I assume you mean the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft where the drive belts ride. It is common for these balancers to separate. When that happens it can throw the belts off or worse- drive them back into the timing belt cover and ultimately cause the timing belt to jump. The front main seal sits behind the balancer so that may be leaking, or it could be the oil pump itself.
