What is your question?
We took our 2013 Mini with 40K miles to our usual repair shop when the engine light came on and it started make rough noise. They said it wasn't any of the "easy" things to fix and that the noise was coming from deep within the engine. They said it would need to go to the dealership, and probably was not going to be worth the money to replace the engine. To get anything like our current model now would cost about $18K+... in fact any "decent" used car we've had any interest in seems to be $18+ So, what would it cost to replace our Mini's engine, and is it worth it? Spending even $9 or 10K is half of what we're going to have to spend on a new one (new or used) but is it likely that our loved Mini is just going to keep wracking up the bills after the engine replacement? UGH.
How long has your 2013 Mini Cooper had this problem?
A couple days

Hello, first - this is a quintessential reason for maintaining a relationship with your local dealership for maintenance and light repairs. If you were a regular maintenance customer and bought the car new, the Mini dealership might be able to get some help from Mini for "goodwill" repairs. But - since you've gone to "your usual repair shop" -- and are not loyal to your dealership -- they really don't have much of a reason to be compelled to assist you. It's unfortunate, but relationship - with a low mile vehicle - is everything. I would still appeal to your local Mini dealership since you have such low miles to see if you can get some help. And, honestly, with the car market being what it is today - yes, repairing your low mileage vehicle is probably a financially advantageous situation. Good luck!
