Shift console P light is on after engine off

On your 2010 Mini Cooper it is actually perfectly normal for the P light to stay illuminated for about 15-20 minutes. When you turn the car off it goes through several self checks and when the light goes off it is a sign that the car has fully gone to sleep, as it is called. If the light never goes off that is something of concern that you would want to get checked out as it is a sign that something in the car is staying awake and will ultimately drain the battery when left sitting for an extended period.
