why does my mini sometimes start and sometime does not start several times.

My Mini Cooper has been in great condition. Suddenly, when we start it, it does not start. we called a tow truck and the tow truck says it is the battery that is not working. So he towed it to our mechanic. To make a long story short, the mechanic says the battery is still in good shape and shows us the meter. Our car is tempermental. Does anyone else have this problem?
