Mini Cooper 2005 auto transmission: Car was fine- went to drive in the morning

Hello, internal concerns with the automatic transmission of a mid 2000's Mini Cooper is not an abnormal thing to experience unfortunately. Although it warrants a diagnostic test to find out what is going on, and following the proper steps to determine failure and repair direction, based on your concern including "grinding", it doesn't sound good.
