had to replace master cylinder and now the cruise control does not work! Fix?

My cruise control would sometimes not work. Pushed the "OFF" end and entire cover popped off. It looks horrible with the cover gone, but the cruise control works wonderfully now! Evidently there was a flaw with the design or installation.
