I advise against a "tune-up" unless you have never replaced the spark plugs, air filter and fuel filter. I would start by checking a few other things first though. Check for diagnostic trouble codes in the engine control module, check Mercury for any technical service bulletins related to this issue and have a shop check that you have the latest software available in your engine control module.
