why does my car feel forced by me driving it and stays on 5 rpm or rmp

when i drive my car it feels forced on a 65 ml per hr the rmp or rpm stays on 5 and i feel like if my car waist to much gas transaxel light is on and engine to is it possible i have to replace the transmission can it be something major? im very concern about that matter whn i drive its like if it does not want to change gears im worried it drives good but i have that problem that i really need advice from
