Where is the solenoid. How to check proper operation solenoid.

The problem most likely is the small hose that leads to the EGR valve(I assume that's what you meant when you said ERG) It is located between the firewall and the EGR valve, which is a very warm area of the engine compartment and is very difficult to see. Mine was nearly crumbling in my hands when I found it and replaced it. It's a $2 hose and can be easily pulled onto and off of the ends. (about 5"long) You'll have to clear the code by using a code clearing reader, or just disconnecting the battery for about 15 seconds and the check engine light will reset itself. I almost spent the 200 bucks to replace the valve, but noticed that it would move manually and wasn't stuck, so I went for the easy fix of the vacuum tubing. Works perfectly now. This is a very common problem with the Villagers.
