Inserted key in the ignition and key won't engage the ignition to start the car.

The key and round part of the ignition switch keeps turning around 360 degree's and does not start the engine . Kind of like the ignition switch is stripped . Not sure what the problem is . Can you help me figure out what is wrong ?? The car won't start .
