Car suddenly lost momentum than stopped engaging any gear

Was told by an incompetent mechanic that my EGR vacuum line had a clog in it, he couldn't fix it, find replacement part etc. I continued driving it, single mom, kinda need my car, but one day it just started losing power on freeway. I pulled car off highway and turned it of, back on, and when i pushed gas while in drive it just revved, if i did out in reverse it spun tires But pulled me sideways as if i were on an ice patch.. My guy friends say tranny, so i towed it and have left it alone, i think ours EGR VALVE and Vacuum line, but would it act like that if there was a clog, and wouldn't a Taurus egr vacuum linr work if i could find a Sable one? I'm a small engine mechanic, work on motor cycles, lawn Mowers, etc., but prego with twins and have a nearly 3 year old, and like i said, single, so i can't afford much, need my car in a bad way and, belly is too big to re ally work under the hood lol
