Used key fob to unlock door, all electrical failed; cracked the hood

If opening the hood made the electrics "come back to normal" I would think more likely bad electrical connections somewhere.I would start looking at the battery connections ensure they are clean tight and secure.Look at connections at the fuse box and look for corroded electrical connections.
