and all electrical came back on and engine started; second time this has happened in 3 weeks. Is this an anti theft problem or is it a bad battery in the key fob?

If opening the hood made the electrics "come back to normal" I would think more likely bad electrical connections somewhere.I would start looking at the battery connections ensure they are clean tight and secure.Look at connections at the fuse box and look for corroded electrical connections. There is a company that independent auto repair shops get their information from, this same information is available inexpensively for people that work on their own cars. The information is year make and model specific, covering repair procedures, torque specifications, fluid capacities and specifications, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... Alldata is very easy to navigate http://bit.ly/AllData_Repair_Manuals_Online
Thank you very much for your response! The first thing we did was to verify battery (5-11-2011); next, remove and clean (again) the posts and connections. We do note that the exterior temp display will stop working - normally after about 5-6 additional starts the problem occurs - which would point to something outside of the battery system - but possibly a poor connection somewhere which causes the radio/temp display to go awry.
