transmission will only go in reverse

Wow, sounds catastrophic, really. Some sort of damage occured when the line blew off. However, you may want to drop the pan and inspect first - perhaps something will be obvious in there. Replace the fluid in full, replace the filter. Low percentage chance of success, but worth a shot.
