i'm leaking transmission fluid around the bell housing at a steady drip

Quite possible it's a front area leak. This may mean a blown seal, leak in the torque converter, a bad bushing or front pump bolts loose. First make sure the fuld is coming from the bell housing and not dripping from the dip stick tube or pan and collecting at the lowest point (bell housing). You may wish to take it to a qualified ATRA shop in your area to have them check it out. Make sure you check with the BBB when looking for a good shop. Also you can check reviews on line to find a good shop. If it is leaking from the front area, the shop will need to remove your transmission to fix it. If that is the case and you have over 100k, you might ask them to do a complete internal inspection. It may be better to have the trans rebuilt rather than paying to fix the leak now, and a little later, have to pull it back out.
