What is your question?
Shifts hard not so much when going from reverse to drive but when at low rpm’s in reverse and drive and also idles too high to me when say going downhill. I’m no mechanic by any means and know next to nothing about cvt transmissions but from what ive read is it uses a chain to link transmission and by feel and sound it’s like the chain possibly gets slack then will jolt and tighten quickly? Idk just kinda observation. It gets worse when it’s warmer out and haven’t had it long enough to find out but apparently in winter will not allow to shift until fluid gets up to temp… Now to me that sounds like wrong viscosity or not cvt fluid was put in it. But again, I’m a carpenter and don’t know jack about what I’m talking about and just need some help and direction cause none of my options here are sounding cheap. Do I just drain the fluid and put in new to start? Filters? Recommended fluid and how much does it take? Any help or guidance is appreciated…
What makes this problem better or worse?

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. The CVT in these Ford products were the very first ones Ford used - and they weren't bad! Actually a good product. Now, it's 20 years in, and I don't know how many miles you have...so all bets are off. When you say "shift" you are meaning going from park to drive or reverse - so I am not certain you are experiencing an actual malfunction of the CVT - or maybe more there is some kind other concern. With all the warning lights on, you'll need to have a diagnostic test performed to get clues as to what is happening. Then, you'll learn if it's an electrical issue or a mechanical or hydraulic one. There is very little I would "do myself" unless you had clues from testing. Do that first. Then you'll know what you're up against. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554. We'll gladly find you a certified RepairPal shop in your area.
