a/c works fine at high speeds, but blows warm at idle. Belts good, fans working, topped off freon.

I have an 07 Mercury Montego and going down the highway it blows cold air ,but sitting still and idling it blows hot air. I tried adding freon ,but it is showing full.
You should have 2 fans behind the radiator, 1 cycles on and off with the coolant temp. and is constant on with the AC. The other is only on with the AC. Start the car turn on the AC are both fans running? If not you need to see if there is power to the non-working fan. If there is the fan motor is bad. If not it could be a relay or fuse, or a broken wire. I am assuming the coolant controlled fan is working since you did not mention any over heating problems.
I'm going to replace the expansion valve in my Montego. This part is in the very back of the fire wall. After disconnecting the lines and getting the bolt out the yoke plate. Do I pry the block out of the surrounding gasket material. it looks tricky. Does anyone know the procedure on the replacement procedures. I appreciate any reply to my questions. Thanks, roybr549@yahoo.com
Had same problem with my 2005 Montego and had to replace compressor. AC tech told me when engine turns higher rpm at expressway speeds this helps compressor but at low rpm not blowing cold air is sign compressor is going bad. This will cost you serious money if you don't have a warranty.
That a/c repair cost 1400$ in Baltimore Maryland. Funny thing is all the possible issue with this car had occurred 4K miles after my extend fully covered warranty ran out. Before that the car was supposedly in perfect condition. That what I get for not drivin the car month while my wife drive this car. She seemed to not notice anything. Furthermore the dealer never mentioned is that anything was wrong with the car. Now it has about a transmission is that could cost 3500-6500$ and the ac repair that is 1400.. I'm beyond pissed. I'm been going to the same dealer for 10 year and 3 cars. This will be the last ford/ Mercury I ever buy. Just purchases a Camry for my destructive wife and I will drive the montego until it dies.
