Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Great question! On your 2011 Mercury Milan, the fact that the washers and auto wipe function work but the manual wiper control doesn't is actually a helpful clue. This kind of selective failure often points to a faulty multifunction switch, which is the stalk assembly itself. Since the washer function runs through a different part of the switch than the manual wiper speed control, it's possible that only a portion of the switch has failed. A wiring issue or a fault in the wiper control module are also possibilities worth considering. Since the multifunction switch on this generation Milan is integrated into the steering column and can involve the airbag system during replacement, I'd recommend having a qualified shop diagnose and handle this repair.
