What is your question?
I have a 2006 Mercury mariner hybrid. Took the rear drive shaft off due to other issues. One of the issues being a scraping sound that I believe is coming from the transfer case. After rear drive shaft removal, the truck is a front wheel drive instead of AWD, hence the 4x4 has also been disabled. So, my question is this….can I now safely and successfully remove the transfer case since the 4x4 is now disabled? Or do I try and repair it? I don’t know what else the noise could be. I checked the oil in the transfer case, and added more, checked the muffler, and put new brakes on a couple months ago, I just don’t know what else the sound could be. Thanks is advance for the answers and advice

Hello, you can't "defeat" or "bypass" the factory installed components, or create a two wheel drive vehicle. The vehicle needs to be repaired properly. Untold concerns can and will occur, including safety related ones. Noise can be related to many things - even brake rotor backing plates contacting the rotors can create a scraping noise. It's too hard to know without getting some assistance to troubleshoot it in a workshop environment. I suggest finding a shop near you that you can build a rapport with to have the inspection performed to your expectations. That sounds nice and all it really does! But when I go into a auto repair shop, I have been treated like an idiot and talked down to. I have also been overcharged and over repaired. I will see what I can do. Thanks! So there is no way the 2 wheel drive will work?
Hi, the whole point of the RepairPal Certified shops, of which some can be found with the link I sent, is to find a shop that is recognized by treating people fairly. I understand the apprehension, but there is no replacement for a professional who knows what they are doing. No, the two wheel drive will not work as you’ve suggested. Sorry!
